Southwestern Colorado Motorcycle Tours

Sample Southwestern Colorado tour:

Day 1: Your Edge of Adventure tour guide picks you up from the Phoenix airport (or your hotel, if you flew in the night before) and takes you to your rental motorcycle. You quickly ascend into the pines and cool mountain air above Phoenix. You take windy backroads or smooth dirt roads until it is time to camp or stay in an Airbnb booked for you by Edge of Adventure staff in Flagstaff; at 7,000 feet of elevation, Flagstaff is cool even during the Arizona summer. Your chef can cook you dinner, or ferry you to the downtown area, which has many craft breweries, and back.

Optional: hike through a lava tube close to Flagstaff.

Day 2: You proceed through red rock country to Durango, CO, where you can camp outside of town or stay in an Airbnb.

Optional: tour Mesa Verde National Park and explore an old Native American settlement.

Day 3: You have reached the Rocky Mountains! You tour the world famous “Million Dollar Highway” through 14,000 foot mountains, to the quaint mountain town of Silverton, CO, for lunch. You proceed to Ouray, CO, “the Switzerland of America”, which is famous for its hot springs and towering cliffs. You can relax in the hot springs and stay in an Airbnb or hotel.

Optional: hot springs.

Days 4-5: If desired, you explore easy to moderate dirt roads from Ouray, CO, gaining elevation until you have amazing views all around you. You can visit a high elevation ghost town and do the Alpine Loop passes for ambitious riders. Or, you can tour Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and twisty roads that follow its river gorge.

Day 6: You tour over Lizard Head Pass to start making your way back to Phoenix. You can explore easy forest service roads and lake views on the way.

Optional: stay an extra night in Durango and go whitewater rafting on the Animas River.

Day 7: Continue towards Phoenix and be dropped off at the airport or your hotel.

Optional: see Grand Falls, AZ.
